“Inter faeces and urinam nascimur”?
In profondo contrasto con questa affermazione di S. Agostino, la fotografia fin dai suoi inizi ha dato vita alla rappresentazione delle famiglie ed è diventata, nel 21° secolo, uno dei fondamenti di questo settore economico.
Per quasi 15 anni, Diane Ducruet ha metodicamente smontato e analizzato il suo tradizionale album di famiglia e cambiato il modo di presentare la felicità con lei, la madre, il padre, il fratello, fidanzato e bambini. Nel suo ultimo progetto Mother & Daughter II, completato nel 2015, Diane Ducruet propone una nuova rappresentazione del rapporto madre-figlia tra il mito e la fiaba, lontano dal concetto iconico della Pietà.
Qui, due corpi si legano e combattono per unirsi in un’unica entità. E ‘il ritratto di una creatura il cui corpo è impiantato tra spazio e tempo, sfidando l’ordine fisso di un documento fotografico. Utilizzando un approccio ibrido e riproducendo le foto, questa serie fa un tuffo tra gli elementi grotteschi del Rinascimento.
Diane Ducruet è nata a Lisieux, in Francia nel 1973, dove ha anche studiato fotografia e storia dell’arte. Oggi vive a Montreuil, un sobborgo di Parigi. Le sue opere sono state più volte esposte in Europa e negli USA.

“Inter faeces and urinam nascimur”?
In deep contradiction with this statement by St. Augustine, photography has shaped the representation of families since its early beginnings and has become the cornerstone of this economic market in the 21st century. After more than two hundred years of ancestry lines captured in an uninterrupted flow of photographs across the oceans and cultures, we do not know much about these bonds of flesh and mind.
For nearly 15 years, Diane Ducruet has methodically deconstructed her traditional family album and its strategy of demonstrating happiness by featuring her family: herself, her mother, father, brother, boyfriend and children. In her latest project “Mother and Daughter II” completed in 2015, Diane Ducruet proposes a new representation of a mother-daughter relationship between myths and fairy tales, far away from the iconic concept of the Pieta.
Here, two bodies bind and fight only to merge into a single entity. It is the portrait of a creature whose body is implanted between space and time, challenging the fixed order of a photographic document. By using a hybrid approach and reproducing the photographs, this series takes a plunge into the Grotesque of the Renaissance.
Diane Ducruet was born in Lisieux, France in 1973, where she also studied photography and art history. Today she lives in Montreuil, a suburb of Paris. Her works have repeatedly been exhibited in Europe and the U.S.A.
