Intervista agli Hollow Front

Nel 2020 gli Hollow Front hanno pubblicato l’album “Loose Threads” e hanno anche fatto da band di supporto ad artisti quali Fit For A King, We Came As Romans e Dayseeker.

Abbiamo chiesto agli Hollow Front di rispondere ad alcune nostre curiosità e Dakota Alvarez, chitarra e voce, ha così risposto.

So che hai scritto il nuovo album durante il periodo della pandemia. Come hai vissuto quei momenti?

La vita è stata decisamente molto stressante, a causa della pandemia. C’era così tanta incertezza su cosa sarebbe successo di tutto il nostro lavoro come Hollow Front. In quel periodo abbiamo firmato con l’UNFD, quindi c’era così tanto nell’aria. È stato un po’ sconfortante, ma anche emozionante accettare la sfida.

Nel nuovo album c’è una canzone chiamata Heritage. È vero che è stata scritta  per il movimento Black Lives Matter e contro il razzismo?

La canzone è stata sicuramente scritta in risposta a tutta la comunità di estrema destra che cercava di giustificare le diverse situazioni che si sono verificate in tutto il nostro paese (George Floyd Murder, Ahmaud Arbery Murder, ecc.) con pregiudizi personali invece di compassione ed empatia, e quelli che si nascondevano dietro il loro “patrimonio” per cercare di rendere accettabile quei fatti. Sebbene possa essere etichettata come una canzone BLM e anti-razzismo, è più una canzone che vuole dire “Smettila di essere così ipocrita e palesemente non compassionevole nei confronti delle persone”.

Ci sono così tanti altri temi importanti nell’album. Quali affrontate?

La maggior parte delle nostre tracce in questo album sono fatte su misura per sfidare tutte le probabilità e perseverare nelle difficoltà che potresti incontrare per tutta la vita. In questo caso, le difficoltà mentre inseguiamo i nostri sogni! Puoi esplorare la perdita, la paura, la confusione, l’ansia, la depressione, la separazione e molti altri sentimenti profondi che sono legati ad essa.

Il vostro suono è così potente e malinconico allo stesso tempo. Cosa volete comunicare con la vostra musica?

Il mio obiettivo è sempre stato quello di rimanere autentico con me stesso, facendo anche del mio meglio per entrare in contatto con le altre persone. E secondo me, il modo più semplice per entrare in contatto con le persone è dare riconoscimento ai loro sentimenti e parlare di cose di cui, spesso, non si parla. In un certo senso, stiamo aprendo quella porta per parlarne!

E… Qual è ‘the price of dreaming’?

Il prezzo da pagare per sognare è una vita solitaria! Farai molti sacrifici per ottenere qualsiasi frammento di progresso nel seguire i tuoi sogni. Che sia sotto forma di persone, beni, stili di vita, qualsiasi cosa. Dovrai rischiare tutto per  avere la ricompensa finale e realizzare i tuoi sogni.

Se potessi lavorare con chiunque nel mondo, chi e perché?

Mi piacerebbe lavorare con Adam D dei Killswitch Engage. Penso che sia un buon esempio di ciò che ottieni quando trovi qualcuno con una vasta conoscenza della musica e lo metti in un ambiente in cui possono essere liberamente musicali mentre esprimono anche tutta la loro personalità con il tipo di gruppo con cui si esibiscono. In questo caso, si adatta perfettamente a ciò a cui voglio arrivare un giorno.

Personalmente, ma non sono l’unica, sono così curiosa di ascoltarvi dal vivo. Quando verrete in Italia o in Europa ragazzi?

Speriamo il prima possibile! Dovevamo fare un tour in Europa questa primavera. Ma, a causa di alcune restrizioni covid abbiamo dovuto annullare l’intero tour. Se tutto va come previsto, dovremmo essere in grado di venire in Europa entro la fine dell’anno, o entro la fine della primavera del prossimo anno!

A tutti i nostri fan in Italia, dico che non vediamo l’ora di visitare il vostro bellissimo Paese! Sappiamo che non vedevate l’ora di vederci dal vivo ed eravamo altrettanto impazienti di esibirci per voi. Questo renderà i nostri primi spettacoli molto più potenti quando accadranno! Vi amiamo e speriamo che godiate di questo nuovo disco fino al momento in cui potremoportarlo live all’estero.

Interview with Hollow Front

They had released the album “Loose Threads” in 2020. Hollow Front also toured with Fit For A King, We Came As Romans and Dayseeker.

We asked some questions to the band and Dakota Alvarez, guitar and vocals, answered so.

I know that you wrote the new album during the pandemic period. How did you live that time?

Life was definitely very stress-induced, because of the pandemic. There was so much uncertainty as to what would come of all of our work in Hollow Front, and we ended up signing with UNFD during that period of time as well. So, there was so much up in the air, it was a bit discomforting, but exciting to be taking on the challenge. 

On the new album there’s a song called Heritage. Is it true that it was written about the Black Lives Matter movement and against the racism?

The song was definitely written in response to all the far-right community trying to justify different situations that came about throughout our country (George Floyd Murder, Ahmaud Arbery Murder, etc.) with personal bias instead of compassion & empathy, and the ones who hide behind their, “Heritage” to try and make it acceptable. While it can be tagged as a BLM & anti-racism song, it’s more of, “Stop being so hypocritical and blatantly non-compassionate towards people” song.

But there are so many other important themes in all the tracks, is that it? What are?

Most of our tracks on this album are tailored towards defying all odds, and persevering through hardships that you may encounter throughout your life. In this case, it’s while we’re following our dreams! You get to explore loss, fear, confusion, anxiety, depression, seperation, and alot of other deep feelings that are tied with it.

Your sound is so powerful and melancholy at the same time. What do you want to communicate with your music?

My goal has always been to stay authentic to myself, while also doing my best to connect with other people. And in my opinion, the easiest way to connect with people is to give their feelings recognition, and make conversation of the things that aren’t too, oftentimes, spoke about. In a way, we’re opening that door to talking about it!

And… What’s the price of dreaming?

A lonely life’s the Price of Dreaming! You’re going to make a lot of sacrifices to attain any fragment of progress in following your dreams. Whether that’s in the form of people, possessions, lifestyles, anything. You’ll have to risk it all for the reward of attaining your dreams.

If you could work with anyone in the world, who and why?

I would love to work with Adam D from Killswitch Engage. I think he’s a good example of what you get when you find someone with extensive music knowledge, and you put them in an environment where they can be freely musical while also expressing their whole personality with the kind of group they perform with. In this case, it fits right up with what I want to get to someday.

Personally, but I’m not the only one, I’m so curious to listen to you live. So, when will you come to Italy or Europe guys?

Hopefully sooner than later! We were supposed to do a tour in the EU this Spring. But, due to some covid restrictions during that period of time, they had to cancel the entirety of the tour. If everything goes as planned, we should be able to be out there by the end of the year, or by late Spring next year!
